The Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe has been involved with re:publica since 2018. This year it is once again a partner for exciting discussions and food for thought on the interplay between culture and the digital scene.
The focus this year is on digital memory culture. The negotiation of history plays an important role in public space, and public space has increasingly shifted to the digital. Digitization creates new possibilities for conveying history and thus significantly changes the culture of remembrance. What opportunities do new digital formats offer for remembering National Socialism, the SED dictatorship, German colonialism, and queer history? How can traditional forms and places of remembrance open up in the course of digitization? And what are the limits of digital remembrance culture? Together with you, we want to discuss these questions about the digital future of memory culture.
