Living room instead of waiting room: applying for public services digitally from the comfort of your sofa, securely identifying yourself online, no longer having to bring printed documents to the citizens’ office—the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community is coordinating and managing the digitization of German public administration nationwide with various projects. With the Smart-eID, the online ID goes into the smartphone. With the Online Access Act (OAA; OZG), the relevant administrative services of the federal, state and local governments are being digitized and administrative portals are being linked nationwide. User orientation is a top priority, which is why citizens and organizations have been involved in the development of online procedures in so-called "digilabs" since the start of the OAA-/OZG-implementation.
 
The BMI "living room" provides an interactive demonstration of how far the digitization of the administration has progressed and what challenges need to be overcome. In addition, various formats are available for discussions with the Federal CIO and State Secretary Dr. Markus Richter or with Ernst Bürger, Head of the "Digital Administration" department. In the "For the Nerds" format, visitors can exchange ideas with experts from the Federal Ministry of the Interior. The Ministry will also be represented with a lightning box.
