Emil Gracic studied Computer Science at the University of Kassel in Germany and did PhD in the department for Computer Architecture and System Programming. The focus of his research relates to the implementation and evaluation of On-Chip redundancy on the FPGA platform. In parallel, he worked six years as a research assistant on the projects for the industry partner, the company HIMA, where he was involved in the chip design of HiCore2 SoC. From July 2018 till January 2020 Emil worked at Hella Aglaia in Berlin as a functional safety manager in the ADAS department. Together with his colleagues, he was trying to investigate and to implement ASIL B concepts in the context of various perception software modules.

From February 2020 till now Emil has been working by CARIAD as AI Safety Expert focussing together with his colleagues on process, methods and tools for certifiable AI modules.

One major trend in the automotive sector includes the goal is to reach automated-driving systems, which are at least performant as an average human driver in order to provide more safety on the road. Clearly there is need for innovation. How can a proper solution look like? And why are we using AI in automotive?
